Unforgettable Camargue 4x4 Safari: Wild Horses & Flamingos!

Alex, our guide, although young, was steeped in the history and daily life of the Camargue. For me, the highlight was the horses but he knew all about the breeding of the bulls and the course camarguaise, a type of bloodless bull-running, staged in arenas and showgrounds, The gardians (cowboys) mounted on the grey horses look after the herds. Wildlife is abundant in the Camargue and we loved watching the flamingos. There was time to visit a shop selling craft and local produce. We had a stroll around the popular seaside resort of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a complete contrast to the peace of the ‘wetland of national importance’ that is the Camargue. Much of the national park is closed to motor vehicles but the company’s trusty Land Rovers, which give 360° vision, have carte blanche to go anywhere

This was a fun activity with a knowledgeable guide although we wondered if we could have had a similar experience on our own, in our own car. The horses and flamingos aren’t hard to find, but our guide knew facts about the area that were interesting. The office where you check in does not have a bathroom. Since it takes a while to get to this town from Arles or other nearby towns where tourists are likely to stay, and the safari is about two hours long, this behooves travelers to arrive about 30 mins early and prepare to go to a cafe nearby to use the facilities. We wished there had been a bathroom on site. Parking is also a challenge.

The guide was very informative, knowledgeable and knowledgeable and kind, the tour was magnificent, lots of animals to be seen. While they warn it might be hard on people with a bad back, as someone disabled, it was not too bad. The booking was easy, and the lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended

Great safari trip, Guide Olivier was superb, especially with our 10 year old. We did tge remote circle, really bumpy but really interesting. Wear and bring anti Mosquito spray suncream and hat. OLIVIER showed us something amazing at the end, a very special nest!

Very knowledgeable and friendly guide and beautiful nature! We specially learned a lot about Flamingos. They have much more in common with us humans than you can imagine. Ask for Johannes as a guide and you will know it. Ah, and search on the internet in 5 years from now for "the Flamingos pill" that I will make. I know sounds crazy, but wait for it 😉

I loved this tour. We had the choice of 3 jeeps, each with a different language guide. Milen, our guide, told us all about the Camargue, the history, geography, economy, flora and fauna. Beautiful area to see. I could have gone with another 15 minutes in Sainte Maries de la Mer.

We learned a lot from Paul who was attentive and informative. We saw several flocks of Flamingo, horses, bulls and various water based birds. In our opinion, had we tried to see the region on our own we would have missed out. Thank you to all the staff. The admin was really simple and the trip very pleasurable.

I joined and enjoyed the French tour with charming Claude and a lovely group, found the 2 hours not enough. Dominique the organiser is an unpleasant person (or simply racist), all in all I would look for other operators next time

We were fortunate to get a great guide who was interested in birds, nature and gave a lot of info about the past and present of fauna and flora in the camargue.
