What could be nicer on a quiet, sunny day than a trip to the zoo with the family, your partner or even on your own? The zoo is the only one of its kind worldwide. At 750 meters, it is Europe’s highest-lying zoo, but it is also easy to get to and not far from the city center. There are many different animals waiting to be seen at the zoo such as lynx, eagles, fish, and birds, as well as wolves and bears. Spring is a particularly interesting time to visit because that is when young animals are born and there is usually a lot going on! At the petting area, rare and local species of cows, pigs, goats and sheep can be seen up close. The ride with the Hungerburgbahn starts at the Station Congress near the center of Innsbruck and brings you in 5 minutes to the Station Alpine Zoo, then back again after your zoo visit.

Loved the Zoo as it focused on local mammals. The railway up was an experience and the views from both were breathtaking.

We came here as a stop by tele-freak and our expectation were very high for the place as we have expected to see many animals. Once we entered, we saw some birds in a big cage , a farm mouse some turtles and fishes. Then a handful of other animals were seen like the otter and brown bear. There is a play area for children and a museum.

Excellent zoo, exactly as described. Not all wildlife visible on the day but good enclosures. Information provided was not totally clear on where to get on funicular

A must visit if you are in Austria. A fantastic experience with family and a great way for family bonding. My child love the goat feeding experience .

The zoo was lovely and there were amazing views from both the zoo and Hungerburg. Tickets were fast and efficient - we just collected them at the station and scanned them for entry into the zoo and transport (very little interaction needed so no worries if your German isn’t great). Very affordable and well worth the money.

This zoo is what one would expect from a city zoo. The zoo is on the side of the mountain and I would advise taking the bus or other means of transportation other then a car as it was very difficult to navigate to. I like the more rustic feel of the exhibits. Be prepared to walk and experience a full calf work out.

Very nice place to visit with young children. You need to spend at least 2.5 hours because is a lot to walk and many animals. The only problem is that all the information is only in German language.

The zoo was disappointing. Some birds in aviaries, one brown bear all alone, a few goats, hens, rabbits. Not much to see and all looked a bit run down.

The view was terrific. The environment for the animals was subpar and unclean. Very smelly. Many animals appeared in ill health.

This is a nice zoo with a decent selection of animals from the region - it was the first time any of us had seen a beaver in real life - and beyond. The enclosures are about the right size - maybe a bit small for the bears - and it is pretty good to look round. It cannot compare to bigger more traditional zoos, but is still worth a look. However, the paths area really - really - steep and it feels like you are climbing a mountain to see many of the animals. On a hot day, it is almost too much. It took away some of the enjoyment.
