This sunset trip is one of the best trips in the world. In the southern part of Oman, on a single day, you will be seeing the largest desert of the World "Empty Quarter" that spreads across many countries of the Middle East. What else could be better than a walk on the desert and seeing the setting sun. Have sand bashing in the desert. The guide and the driver is experienced in the desert driving. Your safety is our priority. You will see the historical site of Ubar at the town of Shisr, known as The Lost City or Ubar or Atlantis of the Sand or the city of the pillars. This city was used for the trade of Frankincense, which was once traded as Gold and Silver. You will also see the 5 square kilometer spread plantation of Frankincense tree on the natural reserve at Wadi Dawkah. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the frankincense trade. The drive will be in 4x4 vehicle through Al Qara Mountains with amazing views of Salalah city. Dinner will be served before dropping off.

Great trip to the desert with Abo Salim. Easy to see the love he has for his country. Good to talk with him and he has a good sense of humour. Also felt very safe he is an experienced driver

The experience was very unique and felt authentic to the Omani people’s life style. The camel meat and milk were a first for me and the Arabian coffee was a nice touch. Our guide was Abo Salim and he added a very pleasant atmosphere. Would highly recommend!

Both Abo Salim and Anna were wonderful guides — friendly, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to make the experience enjoyable once the tour actually happened. The scenery in the Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter) was stunning, and their hospitality made it a memorable trip. However, I want to warn future travelers that there’s an unlisted minimum-participant requirement for this tour that is not disclosed on Viator’s website. I was informed by Beautiful Salalah Tours at 7:35 PM the night before that my booking would be canceled unless I agreed to pay double to turn it into a “private tour.” That last-minute notice left me without options to rebook, and Viator provided no real assistance in resolving the issue. I ultimately chose to pay the higher price because I didn’t want to lose the experience altogether — but travelers deserve clear, upfront information about pricing and minimum requirements. I hope Viator updates their listing to reflect this so others don’t face the same situation.

Lovely day out in the empty quarter with Abu Salim. Abu Salim was a great guide sharing a lot about Oman tradition and way of life. Note: We were staying in Mirbat which made it a rather long journey and lots of driving. Probably best to be station in Salalah if you wish to do that trip as it would reduce driving time or stay overnight in the desert. We did it as a day trip.

Excellent trip, Abo Salim was an excellent tour guide, very friendly, personable, and went the extra mile to show us different interesting sights along the way. He expertly navigated us around the sand dunes and we watched the sunset. I definitely want to return and do a longer 2-3 day camping trip in the desert. Perfect day!

Abo Salim was a fantastic guide who kept us comfortable in his new Toyota Land Cruiser. He effortlessly guided us through the dunes of the desert and brought us to a sublime area for the sunset. He showed us incredible hidden gems in the local villlages and made sure we were well hydrated and well fed. 10 stars!!

We had the most incredible experience on the Safari tour with Beautiful Salalah Tours, guided by the amazing Abo Salim. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, professional, and filled with breathtaking moments. Abo Salim is not only knowledgeable but also incredibly passionate about the region, its culture, and natural beauty. We explored the stunning mountains, wadis, and desert landscapes of Salalah, each stop more spectacular than the last. He made sure we were comfortable, safe, and truly enjoying every minute. We even got to try traditional Omani food and learn about local customs along the way, which made the journey feel authentic and enriching. The 4x4 adventure through the sand dunes was a highlight, thrilling yet safe, and the sunset views were absolutely magical. Abo Salim’s storytelling and sense of humor made the trip even more memorable. It felt like traveling with a friend who knows all the secrets of Salalah! I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oman. Beautiful Salalah Tours and Abo Salim made it a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget. Don’t miss it!
