Athens Culinary Immersion: Unforgettable Local Food Tour

We scheduled this tour on a whim and it was a fantastic experience! Andreas, our guide, was knowledgeable about Greek history and its impact on its food over the centuries. The food was both delicious and plentiful. I would book another tour with Andreas as our guide if we had more time!

We had a wonderful time on the food tour with Andreas. We tried all kinds of things and learned a lot! We appreciated that Andreas answered all of our questions and he did a great job accommodating the vegetarian in our group. It was a treat to try so many different dishes and to see parts of Athens we wouldn’t have visited otherwise. I would definitely recommend this tour!

A great way to stay a trip in Athens. A friend recommended this small group food tour and so glad we did it. Our guide, Andreas, was super knowledgeable about the history and had a great way of connecting it all and engaging the children. The three hours seemed to fly by and we left very full but wanting to try more! Will definitely try some of the recipes he sent after.

We met our lovely guide lady Antigony near our hotel. We had 3.5 hours of a great wether and super tasty tour. Antigony shared her knowledge with us and we are already missed athens. We will come again for sure.

My sisters and I took the Delicious Food Tour in Jan '26. Simos was our tour guide from Alternative Athens and he was phenomenal. He was professional, thorough and very funny! We were all expecting sample size portions at the various restaurants but we ended up getting large quantities-- in some cases they were full meals! I highly recommend this tour.

If you like an upclose and personal tour tasting Greek food, culture and friendliness this is the one for you!! Antigone was a wonderful host - her knowledge and charm made this tour so very special. We walked, and ate, our way through an amaxing array of Greek dishes, as we strolled through various neighbourhoods - each with their own story to tell. Our tour was a journey through the culture and history of Athens, as told by a wonderful host and guided by the cuisine This tour made our trip to Athens sooo very special

Really exceptional food tour hosted by Antigoni! Souvlaki, baklava, Greek coffee, olive oil tasting, loukoumades and even a recipe book sent at the end. Also got a really good insight into daily life in Greece with some history and cultural stops between the food. Can't recommend highly enough!

The guide, Elizabeth, was very knowledgeable and lovely. The food was very good, plentiful and diverse.

Elissavet was fantastic! She taught us a great deal about the history and culture of Greece and Athens, introduced us to delicious foods we’d never tasted, all the while making us feel like she was an old friend. Even in the rain, she made this tour one of the best parts of our visit! I cannot recommend her and the Alternative Athens food tour enough!

We arrived the day before and the food tour was our first experience in Athens. Our tour guide, Andreas Magridge was able to share his love of Greek food with his knowledge of Athens and Greek life. The tour was informative and fun, and was a great way to begin our 10 day vacation. We highly recommend experiencing Athens thru this adventure.
