Medellin's Breathtaking El Peñol & Guatape Private Escape

The tour itself is amazing. The view from the top is breathtaking and Guatape is colorful and charming. Totally worth it! We wished tour guide would have been more informative throughout the tour and advised us about how much time we had. We wanted to spend more time in Guatape exploring but felt rushed.

We had an amazing private tour of El Peñol and Guatapé with Carlos, and I can’t recommend him enough! He spoke excellent English, which made communication super easy and enjoyable throughout the day. Carlos was a safe and confident driver, which helped us relax and really take in the beautiful scenery. He also had some great local recommendations for food and drinks — everything he suggested was delicious and authentic. What really stood out was how informative he was. He shared so much interesting history and insight about the area, and it never felt scripted — just genuine, knowledgeable conversation. If you’re looking for a fun, comfortable, and educational way to experience El Peñol and Guatapé, Carlos is your guy!

I had a fantastic private tour of El Peñol and Guatape with Carlos! Carlos knows all the ins and outs of the area and can cater the tour to what you like. We were able to have great local coffee, snacks and food. 10/10 would recommend going with Carlos. I would also recommend going early to beat the traffic!

Great experience! John, our tour guide, picked us up from our hotel in the morning and drove us to Guatape. We climbed the 700 steps to the top of La Piedra to stunning views. Wow! We then drove to the nearby town of Guatape which was quaint, colorful and photogenic. John took us to some good shopping areas for chocolate, coffee, emeralds and other souvenirs. The tour company and John were great and arranged a birthday surprise for one of our tour members at a local restaurant - thank you for making this a memorable and fantastic day for all of us!

Great time and very scenic. The quaint town of Guatape was a joy to walk. At every corner there was something to photograph.

This tour was incredible! Carlos was our guide, and he was wonderful. He picked us up on time at our hotel, and took us out to El Penol, telling us about the area and answering all of our questions. El Penol itself is an intense climb, but the views are so worth it! And then we were able to go into the town of Guatape, wander around, and had a great lunch at a restaurant recommended by Carlos. And, after seeing the multiple group tours all being herded around, we were so glad to have booked a private tour-it’s definitely worth the cost! Overall it was a great day and one we will not forget!

This was a great tour. We always had great communication before the actual tour. Our guide was Erickson. He gave us his number early in the tour so we could keep in touch. We visited El Peñol, which was great, then we went to the damn cruise. Lunch in the cruise was small, but tasty. We also visited Guatapé, which we loved! Just keep in mind we got back to the city almost at 10pm. Between people being late, traffic, it took more time than advertised. However, we loved it!

John was such an amazing tour guide! He was so knowledgeable, kind, and just overall amazing! He adjusted the tour to my needs, and I would have loved to do all of our tours in Columbia with him! John was such a great representative of all warm-hearted Columbians and this stunning country! Touring with him is your biggest luck!

I took 2 tours with Medellin travels. My first tour was Guatape with El Penol - a fun day - great views and an opportunity to experience a lively and colorful Colombian gem outside Medellin. There are many opportunities to take great photos, shop and eat delicious street foods and in cafes. My second tour was the Pablo Escobar tour which included La Catedral. An interesting tour that visits many sites around Medellin that are part of the Pablo Escobar story and legend. La Catedral is worth a visit for the views alone, but the 'prison' is part of the Pablo story you have to see to believe. Medellin Travels was easy to book with and communicate with. Everything was taken care of, including comfortable transportation, guide and and stops along the way for comfort, food and shopping.
