The catacombs settled in the tunnels of ancient quarries, where an ossuary with the remains of several million Parisians after the closure of cemeteries was located at a depth of 20 m underground. Since 1809, the Catacombs have invited visitors to travel back in time.


The catacombs of Paris are 131 steps down and 112 steps up. The catacombs are located at a depth of 20 meters underground. The only accessible way to them is by stairs.

Every day from 9:45 to 20:30, except Mondays and some holidays. The last entrance is at 19:30.

The catacombs of Paris are not accessible to people in wheelchairs or walkers due to underground site restrictions. A visit is also strongly discouraged:

- persons with limited mobility,

- persons suffering from heart or respiratory failure,

- pregnant women,

- persons with hypersensitivity and suffering from claustrophobia;

- children under ten years old. An adult must accompany children under 14.

For the safety and security of the place, the maximum simultaneous number of visitors is 200 people. In the case of high attendance, the queue may increase significantly, and the entrance may be instantly suspended.
