1. Drepung Monastery is one of the most significant and largest monasteries in Tibet. It was founded in 1416 by Jetsun Khenpo, a disciple of Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery was once home to over 10,000 monks and served as the main seat of the Gelugpa school until the 5th Dalai Lama founded the Potala Palace.

The monastery features stunning white buildings and is known for its impressive collection of thangka paintings, sculptures, and murals. Many significant religious ceremonies and events take place at the monastery throughout the year, including the annual Sho Dun Festival.
