Timeless Water Towns: Private Wuzhen & Xitang Escape from Shanghai

This private full-day trip to Wuzhen and Xitang was absolutely unforgettable! From start to finish, everything was seamless and thoughtfully planned. Caroline, our guide, was friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to share the history, culture, and hidden gems of both towns. The itinerary was perfectly paced—Wuzhen offered beautiful canals, traditional architecture, and a peaceful atmosphere, while Xitang came alive in the evening with lantern-lit bridges and lively street scenes. It felt like stepping into two different worlds in one day. Both lunch and dinner were included, and the meals were delicious, authentic, and plentiful—definitely a highlight of the trip. We never felt rushed and always had enough time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the scenery. If you’re looking for a well-organized, culturally rich, and hassle-free experience, I highly recommend this tour. It was the perfect way to experience the charm of China’s famous water towns in one unforgettable day!

Caroline was an amazing guide!!!! She help us so much yo fine the best spots for awesome couple photos. The restaurants were authentic and tje food was so yummy. We cannot recommend this tour enough.

Our guide Xin was lovely. She was great to talk to and full of information on the 2 water towns that we visited. She took is to 2 lovely restaurants, the one we went to for lunch was full of locals so we knew we were in for a great meal. The water towns themselves were very picturesque. Full of old world charm and history, making for great photography.

The tour was very well organised and it "transported us into the ancient times" when these water towns first came about. The suggestion by the travel agency on staying for the night lights at Xi-Tang was excellent. We really enjoyed riding the boat down the canal with lights from both sides of the shore. The meals included were delicious. The guide (Caroline) was excellent as she clearly explained each sites and stories from the past. I highly recommend this day trip by Shanghai Tours.

Sensational day. Our guide Caroline made the day perfect with her knowledge, energy, passion and beautiful nature. The preserved historical nature of these towns is authentic and a must see. Albeit very popular with the locals and Aussie like me found the tour enthralling being. To see the night lights and canal cruise you need to book the 11am pick up. Food was plentiful and authentic Chinese with an array of delicious selections for had core westerners. Everything is included and communication through the process was top notch. Caroline is very attentive and will make sure you have whatever you need. Couple of tips: It will be very hot and humid in August. Take soare tissues and be prepared for some Chinese toilets, although western ones are available. But thats China. E prepared for crowds in weekends. Can not recommend this tour or Caroline and her Driver highly enough. Beautiful day.

What an amazing day. We were met at our hotel by Caroline and picked up in a very comfortable and private Mercedes van with air conditioned and massaging chairs. Caroline began the tour right away by telling us some history and facts about Shanghai, which were very interesting. We made our way to Wuzhen and Xitang and stopped at a little restaurant where Caroline helped order lunch. Later we also had dinner and again, Caroline’s suggestions were perfect. Wuzhen and Xitang are beautiful places to visit, and definitely a highlight of our JapanKorea/China family vacation. But Caroline was the star of the show - she made the tour so so fun, easy and enjoyable. Thank you so much Caroline.

Our guide Kimi was very knowledgeable, kind, helpful, and flexible. He immersed us in the local culture, gave us detailed explanations of the places we visited, and shared interesting insights that enriched our experience of these beautiful locations.

WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! I traveled solo and thought this would be a small group experience… BOY WAS I WRONG! THIS WAS COMPLETELY PERSONALIZED JUST TO ME!! Everything from the very beginning was absolutely perfect. The driver and guide, Caroline, picked me up on time and were extremely polite. I was driven to both towns in a private car and the whole time was lovely. Not just were the destinations amazing and the most beautiful and magical places surrounding Shanghai, but Caroline made the whole day EXTREMELY SPECIAL, MEMORABLE, and JOYFUL! She is extremely knowledgeable and even helped me with my shopping, suggested dishes in both restaurants we went to, had very pleasant conversations throughout the day, and went as far as being my personal photographer! She is too sweet and has definitely set the bar BERY HIGH for any other tour guides I may have in the future. Caroline also answered ALL of my questions not just about the tour and the towns, but also about Chinese culture in general. I never had an awkward moment of silence or an uncomfortable moment. The whole experience felt more like I was traveling with a friend! Bottom line, I just want to book tours with Amazing Shanghai Trip from now on!!! I am being one hundred percent honest when I say Caroline made this experience 1000 times better… if I could, I would book EVERY SINGLE TOUR with her… YOU SHOULD TOO!!! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED MY EXPERIENCE!!!! THANK YOU CAROLINE!! When I come back to Shanghai I am definitely repeating this experience in this same tour, hopefully with Caroline!! 100000% recommend!!!

Great experience and guide (Jane). We had booked for 9:30 AM but they suggested we leave a little later to be able to see the village at night when it was lit up and definitely glad we did! Cool shops and the pork at the first restaurant stop was one of the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten.

The tour was perfect, and our tour guide was incredibly friendly, showing us all the best spots and restaurants. We’d do it again anytime—highly recommended!
