We were staying in the south coast and wanted to build in a memorable adventure on the glacier that was active but not extreme. This hike was perfect for us. The person managing the hike, Neil from Catalonia, was great. He kept everyone moving, upbeat and safe. It may be useful for others to know that we were unsure which company to book and went with Arctic Adventures due to availability of the time slot we wanted. (10:30 instead of 9:30 which made a difference due to the late sunrise.) Whilst it was first cancelled due to weather, this wasn’t their fault and we were offered a refund or option to rebook. It was very easy to arrange the following day when the winds slowed down. Everything on the hike day went smoothly and was very well organised. Keep in mind it’s a bit of effort and you only spend maybe an hour or so on the ice itself, but it’s the only way to properly see the glacier. Our group was a pleasant size of 10 total. Some of the other operators had very large groups that arrived by coach and looked unpleasant.

Jan was absolutely AMAZING! He kept us safe, very informative. He was also a great photographer! Highly recommend! The hiking on ice part was honestly more fun than the cave itself. Dress in layers because it gets hot!

Such a fun experience. Our tour guide, Mickell, was wonderful. He took the time to ensure we all were familiar with the equipment. He provided great information about the glacier, how they are formed, what happens when they recede, melt, etc. and a general overview of glacier hiking. He hiked at a very good pace for everyone in the group and took plenty of breaks. He was charming and knowledgeable. Highly, highly recommend this adventure.

The staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They explained the entire process of glaciers, stopped for breaks and pictures, and helped when needed. It was beautiful, a good workout, run by great people.

The tour was beautiful and not at all difficult thanks to our guide Daniel. He did a terrific job preparing us before the hike and took breaks and shared interesting facts about the glacier. We had a couple people who were struggling a little and he did a wonderful job making everyone feel like they can manage the hike. I do recommend starting off with fewer layers on because I did get warm and needed to remove my hat and coat.

Daniel was an excellent guide. He was clear in his instructions and guidance as he brought us through the glacier. I also appreciated him bringing us through more unexplored areas of the glacier and showing us unique features of it.

Our Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike with Steve was nothing short of amazing! His expert navigating and deep knowledge made the experience both safe and fascinating—he taught us so much about glaciers and the natural beauty of the region as we explored. The day started off a little rainy, but right as we began hiking onto the glacier, the skies cleared and gave us the perfect conditions for the adventure. It was truly unforgettable, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Highly recommend this hike with Steve—it’s a remarkable experience you’ll never forget!
