Morocco's Timeless Trio: Meknes, Volubilis & Moulay Idriss

From the city of Fes and back was arranged well by Karim. Went visiting the mentioned spots and gave clear instructions. Karim is great friendly guide who will give you the information.

We booked late and they had trouble accommodating us in the group they already had, so a little bit late to pick us up. In compensation, we ended up with a private driver. So kudos for that. Ishmael was super nice and gave us good explanation of the places we visited. This paragraph has nothing to do with the activity I'm reviewing, but a word of warning to visitors: when stopping at Moulay Idriss there are people outside the mosque hunting for tourists. They will offer to take you to see the round minaret and a panoramic view of the city. Be 100% certain that you want to do this. There are a lot of twists and turns in the streets and a lot of stairs. If you have second thoughts in the middle of the climb I hardly doubt you'll find your way back on your own. Be prepared to pay a "tip" of about 50 dirham per person for this visit. Volubilis is amazing, and the 1 hour stop was enough to walk around most of it and take pictures. In Meknes they brought us to a restaurant that was really good and the service very friendly. It can get busy though so be mindful of that. Then we had 2 hours to walk around. Honestly, this seems a bit excessive. We went to the mauseoleum and maybe took 30-40 mins tops to visit. Then we ended up having a coffee at another place as we went to the plaza outside the medina and came back because there was really not much to see. I might be mistaken, but if there is more to see, this is where a little bit more information from our driver would have been helpful. All in all, since you are basically paying to be driven to the sites, it's a good price for the service provided.

Fun trip - Said Jamai is a great guide and effortlessly provides a fantastic day out. The ruins are very impressive and well preserved - slightly too hot to go in the middle of the day but otherwise good.

Our driver Said Jamai was energetic and friendly. He did a great job of communicating where to go and when to return from the van. The van (minibus?) had 14 seats for passengers so won’t be any larger. We had plenty of time in Volubilis (it was hot, as advertised!). You could hire a guide but I did not find one who spoke English available as we entered. Stop at Moulay Idriss was very brief. Little to see for non-Muslims (not allowed in). Plenty of time at Meknes. Myself and some other couples did not eat at the recommended restaurant and he accommodated us by letting us know where/when to return to the bus.

Wonderful, Said Jamai was excellent at driving and very funny. He’s very friendly and gives good recommendations for what to see and eat.

Our driver/ guide amended the itinerary to make our visit to the cities less crowded with other tourists. No regret to hire a local guide in Meknes which we learned a lot from him. Amazing trip
