1. El Campo Santo Cemetery is located in Old Town San Diego and is one of the oldest cemeteries in the city. It was founded in 1849 and was used to bury some of San Diego’s most prominent citizens, including members of the Estudillo family (who owned much of the land in Old Town), as well as soldiers, priests, and early settlers. The cemetery is known for its intricate ironwork fences and tombstones, which feature symbols and designs from the Victorian era. Many of the graves are unmarked, as the wooden headstones that were originally used have long since decayed. The cemetery is also said to be haunted by some of its former inhabitants, with reports of strange noises and ghostly apparitions.
