1. The Great Synagogue of Bucharest, also known as Sinagoga Mare, is the largest synagogue in Romania and one of the largest in Europe. It is a spectacular example of neo-Moorish architecture and has a capacity of over 3,000 seats. The synagogue was built between 1845-1852 and underwent major renovations in 1932. During World War II, the synagogue was damaged, but it was restored in the years following the war. Today, it serves as the main place of worship for the Jewish community in Bucharest.

2. The working hours of the Great Synagogue are Sunday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The synagogue is closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays. The phone number of the Great Synagogue is +40 21 311 0574.

3. Admission to the Great Synagogue is free, but advance booking is required. Visitors can make a reservation by emailing the Jewish Community of Romania at office@federationromana.ro or by calling the synagogue’s phone number. Getting to the synagogue is easy as it is located in the heart of Bucharest near other popular tourist attractions. Visitors can take the subway (Piata Universitatii station) or bus to get to the Great Synagogue. Taxi services are also available.
